Love is Born

On April 26th our beautiful baby boy was born. He weighed 7lbs. 14 oz. and was 22 in. long. We named him Deacon Scott. He has been so much fun and has totally changed our lives forever. We have no idea how we got along without him. It took us over four years to get him here, but he was worth the wait. I enjoyed being pregnant, but I can't say labor was all that fun. I started contracting pretty hard Thursday the 24th. I waited until they were about five minutes apart and we went to the hospital only to be sent home because I hadn't started dialating. I was pretty miserable all Thursday night and Friday. By the time Scott got home from work on Friday I was in tears and didn't think I could take much more. We went back to the hospital where they just about sent me home again, but I finally started dialating...very slowly. I wasn't fully dialated until almost 5:00 am. Saturday morning. Luckily for the last about 8 hours of labor I was enjoying an epidural. Oh man was I enjoying that epidural. You natural child birthers out there have my respect, but I also think you are a little nuts. I pushed for over two hours and the doctor was going to do a C-Section if he didn't come within the next half hour. Deacon arrived at 6:54 am. He came out with his eyes wide open staring right at his daddy. Scott will never forget seeing his face for the first time. It was love at first sight for both of us. You wonder how you can love someone so much so soon. Deacon came into this world with his eyes wide open and they have stayed wide open since then. He rarely sleeps (night or day). He loves to just look around the room and at what everyone is doing. He started smiling within the first couple of days and we find him smiling all the time when no one is really around. We often wonder who he is smiling at. Scott's mom passed away 2 years ago and we are pretty sure his grandma Janice must be somewhere close keeping an eye on him.
