We lived right next to the Petersburg Battlefield in Virginia, so we enjoyed a few Sunday walks around this historic place. It was the site of some major battles fought by Lee and Grant towards the end of the Civil War. The most famous one was the Battle of the Crater where 6,000 lives were lost. Many of the trenches and earthworks have been preserved, so it was easy to visualize what it probably looked like. It was sad to think such a beautiful place was once filled with war and death.
...and climbing on the "big guns".
Scott too for that matter...
