Scott has been wanting me to see the Crandall Printing Museum for awhile now. Not exactly my cup of tea, but right up his alley! What else can I expect being married to a history teacher? It was our turn to host family home evening with my family this month, so I thought it would be the perfect time to go. I could have other non-hisory buffs there to experience the painful...I mean historical moment with me! It actually ended up being quite fascinating and very spiritual too! The museum has amazing replicas of the printing presses that printed the Gutenberg bible, the Declaration of Independence, and the Book of Mormon. The tour discusses the role of written and printed word through history. It was very hands on and the little kids were able to touch the press and "help" them work it.
This is Kaiden checking it out:
"Bejamin Franklin" was even there to discuss his role in the printing industry.
My favorite part was when they talked about the miraculous printing of the Book of Mormon. The man who gave the tour, Lou Crandall, showed us what it would have taken to print and bind the first 5000 Books of Mormon. He bore his testimony that the only way they would have been able to accomplish this feat in the time they did would be through divine intervention. It was a very cool experience and even though it was a bit long for the younger kids, I'm glad we went!
